The film was released on October 13, 1915 [1] [2] and was “a big hit” [3] . A continuation (second series) is the film “ Boris and Gleb ” (1915) [4] .
The film has not survived.
Content
Story
Unprincipled Valerian Ronetsky attracted millions of rich, beautiful and independent Irina Kirsanova. He managed to make him believe in the sincerity of his feelings for her. Irina was fascinated by Ronetsky and did not appreciate Boris Nikolayev’s sincere love for her.
Three years have passed. Married to Irina, Ronetsky managed to gain confidence so that Irina entrusts him with the management of all affairs. He steals considerable funds from Irina and spends them on his mistress, Ekaterina Insarova.
Irina begins to suspect her husband and finds him in the arms of her friend. Irina decides to divorce. Ronetsky openly lives with Insarova. Irina offers a hundred thousand rubles for a divorce and invites her loyal Boris. Ronetsky comes, a quarrel arises, Ronetsky attacks Irina, Boris kills him.
Irina wipes the blood from the hands of Boris. Suddenly a man appears in a mask with a revolver and demands money. Irina sends him to a room with a corpse, locks him there and calls the police. The police arrest the unlucky robber, who turned out to be the driver of the Ronetskys, and charge him with murder. The driver tries in vain to justify himself. Only his sister Liza and who took it to defend Gleb Nikolayev, Boris's brother, believe in his innocence. Irina is silent at the trial, but Gleb promises to shed light on this case and appeal the conviction.

Ratings
The reviewer of the Projector magazine noted that the dignity of the film “in a very interesting plot, skillfully designed and staged and smoothly played” [5] . “Of the performers,” he continued, “in the foreground is Ms. Terek, who gave a clear image of a“ strong woman ”” [6] . It was noted the vitality and naturalness of the film [5] [7] .
The films “Irina Kirsanova” and “The Brothers Boris and Gleb”, according to the historian of cinema B.S. Likhachev , were the best films of the year [8] [9] .
The film historian Veniamin Vishnevsky described the film as a “criminal-psychological kinoman with an interesting plot, unanimously noted by the entire Russian press as an undoubtedly successful film” [4] [10] .
