Geography

Pogranichnoe is located in the south of the Kaliningrad region 13 km west-north-west of the city of Bagrationovsk . 2.8 km south of the village runs the Russian-Polish border.

History

The settlement belongs to the historical region of ancient Prussia named Warmia .

Before the Teutonic Knights came, the Prussian settlement Avsaynen (Avzeinen, Osainen) was located on the site of the modern village of the Border.

As a result of the invasion of the Poles in 1414 and during the War of the estates of 1454-1466, Avsainen was ruined.

During the Knights Uprising of 1520, Avsainen and neighboring villages were completely destroyed and ceased to exist for almost 40 years.

On March 29, 1559, the former Avsaynen was restored under the name of Hussenen. In 1946, Hussenen was renamed Pogranichnoe [2] .
