Biography

Born May 18, 1757 in Nauheim .

He graduated from high school in Idstein . In 1774-1776 he studied law and mathematics in Gottingen , in 1776-1777 - at the University of Giessen [4] [5] . He studied salt formation in Nydd , practiced in Salzhausen for some time [4] .

In 1781 he received a Ph.D. at the University of Erfurt , in the summer semester he lectured in mathematics at the University of Giessen as a privat-docent [4] [5] [6] . In 1781–1784, he was a land judge in Mülheim , and from 1784, a salt inspector in Gerabron (then part of the Ansbach Margrave ) [4] [5] .

In 1796-1804 he worked as a professor of mathematics and mechanical engineering at the University of Erlangen , where he significantly improved the technology room [4] [5] [7] ; among his students is Georg Om [5] . In 1804-1806 he taught mathematics and technology at Vilnius University [4] [5] [7] ; received the Russian nobility [4] (in 1806 [K 1] promoted to court advisers ) [5] .

From May 27, 1806 to 1827, he was a professor of mathematics at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Heidelberg [4] [7] (1808, 1813 - dean of the faculty of philosophy, in 1809 - vice-rector, 1813/1814, 1816 - member of the university senate); taught courses in mathematics, optics, engineering, hydraulics, construction of waterways and bridges [5] [6] .

He died on June 10, 1834 in Heidelberg.

Langsdorf wrote many works on physics and mathematics. Of these, the university published Institutiones technologicae (Vilna 1806), Principia staticae et mechanicae corporum solidorum et fluidorum, and several others [7]
