Biography
Karl Weisenberger was born in 1890 in the city of Würzburg in northern Bavaria .
In 1909 he entered the 9th Bavarian Infantry Regiment "Wrede" of the Bavarian Army as part of the army of the German Empire . October 26, 1911 was promoted to lieutenant of the 20th Bavarian infantry regiment "Prince Franz" .
He participated in the First World War , after the war he continued to serve in the German army. February 1, 1928 he became a major, and in 1934 he was promoted to colonel and appointed commander of the 21st (Bavarian) infantry regiment of the Reichswehr , and in 1935 he headed the Military Academy.
After the outbreak of World War II, General Weisenberger was appointed commander of the 71st Infantry Division on October 15, 1939, at the head of which he took part in the French campaign . On February 15, 1941, General Weisenberger was appointed to command the 53rd Army Corps . In April of the same year, he was promoted to general from infantry . In this rank and position, Weisenberger took part in the war against the USSR , the corps under his command as part of Army Group Center advanced across the territory of Belarus , then took part in the battle for Moscow .
On November 29, 1941, Weisenberger received under his command the 36th Mountain Corps , which conducted military operations in Karelia together with the Finns in the 20th Mountain Army, under the command of Colonel General Edward Dietl and then Colonel General Lothar Rendulich .
General Weisenberger headed the corps until August 10, 1944, after which he was transferred to the Führer Reserve . However, already on August 15, 1944, he replaced General Moritz von Quiz on the post of commander of the 13th military district in Nuremberg .
General Weisenberger died in 1952 in his native Bavaria.
