Biography and career
Kay Nelson, nee Katherine Gwendolyn Bouchard, was born on September 14, 1909 in the United States . On September 30, 1927, she married Maurice Emery Nelson, they had two children, son Maurice Emery Nelson, Jr. (died before 2015) and daughter Karen Elizabeth Nelson (married to Mason; 02.16.1936 - 02.25.2015), after what they divorced.
Nelson was a Hollywood costume designer in 20th Century Fox , [2] whose first film was the comedy “ In Mabel’s Room "In 1944 [2] . Over the next 17 years, she provided costumes for films such as “ God be her judge ” (1945), “ Boomerang! ”,“ Miracle on 34th Street ”and“ Gentlemen's Agreement ”(all in 1947) and“ Letter to the Three Wives ”(1949).
At 20th Century Fox , she worked under the leadership of Charles LeMeyer , who gathered a talented department of costume designers, including Rene Hubert Bonnie Kashin and Oleg Cassini [3] .
On March 27, 1949, she married Lyle R. Wheeler, artistic director of 20th Century Fox , whom she divorced a few years later.
She was nominated for an Academy Award (1950) in the nomination " Best Costume Design (Color Films) " for " Mother - Freshman "(1949) [4] .
Her last film was the British crime drama “ Tag "In 1961.
December 27, 1962 Nelson married a third time to Lawrence S. Howell, remaining in this marriage as a widow. She died on September 1, 2003 in Antioch ( California , USA ), not having lived 13 days before her 94th birthday.
