Alexey Alekseevich Grigoriev (born July 26, 1937 , Leningrad ) - Russian geographer, geomorphologist, doctor of geographical sciences (1977), professor at the Faculty of Geography, St. Petersburg Pedagogical University. A.I. Herzen. Honorary member and member of the Presidium of the Russian Geographical Society. The author of over 30 books on geography, ecology and paleogeography. Develops themes of natural and prehistoric heritage. Member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) "News of the Russian Geographical Society". The adherent of the concept of Russian cosmism [1] .
Professor Alexei Grigoriev headed the first in the USSR Laboratory of Space Geography at the Department of Atmospheric Physics of Leningrad State University (now St. Petersburg State University).

Path to Science
He graduated from Leningrad State University (now SPbSU) in 1959 with a degree in geography and geomorphology. From 1958 to 1968, he worked at the Laboratory of Aero Methods of the USSR Academy of Sciences. He took part in expeditions in the mountains of Tarbagatay and Zaisan depression, Ukrainian, Belarusian and Meshchersky woodlands, in Predkarpattya, Valdai, in Karelia, in the basins of Lake Ladoga and Lake Ilmen, on the Central Siberian Plateau. In these expeditions he conducted activities in two scientific areas: 1). development of methods for extrapolation of geographic information obtained from aerial photographs; 2). Identification of the indicative role of forest vegetation in deciphering soil and quaternary sediments. In 1966 he defended his thesis, and in 1977 he defended his doctoral thesis in geography.
From 1968 to 1978, he worked at the Department of Atmospheric Physics at St. Petersburg State University, and participated in the development of a topic on the study of natural resources and the environment using space surveys. Head of the laboratory of space geography (created by Prof. BV Vinogradov). Participant of the world's first large-scale scientific experiment "Spaceship - Aircraft - Earth" (organized by academician K.Ya. Kondratyev) in the deserts of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. Conducted classes with astronauts before regular flights into space [2] . He participated in many scientific expeditions in various landscapes of the USSR.
Since 1978, Alexei Grigoriev - Head and Professor of the Department of Physical Geography and Geology of the Russian State Pedagogical University named after A. Herzen (St. Petersburg). He prepared a number of programs for visual observations of the Earth by astronauts; as an expert, he participated in research on the Aral Sea problems. Developed courses of lectures on geography, ecology.
From 2001 to 2018 again in St. Petersburg State University, in the position of Professor of the Department of Regional Studies and International Tourism. Engaged in the study of World Heritage sites, geographical aspects of the exploration of the Earth megalithic civilization. Among the new lecture courses developed the course "Geography of Natural and Cultural Heritage" and the course of regional studies - the states of Europe. The main focus of modern field research is the geographical aspects of the most ancient development of geographic space in the North-West of Russia.
As of 2019, Alexey Grigoriev is a professor at the Russian State Pedagogical University. A.I. Herzen. Member of the doctoral dissertation councils at St. Petersburg State University and the Russian State Pedagogical University. A.I. Herzen [3] .
