Stage 2

The second stage started in Bologna under the gusts of rain and wind. The struggle for departure to the end ended with the formation of a group of fugitives consisting of: Francois Bidar , Marco Frapporti , Mirco Maestri , Lukash Ovsyan , Damiano Cima , Giulio Ciccone , Will Clark and Sean Bennett . By the efforts of Giulio Ciccone, only four remained on the classification mountain Montalbano , and they won a mountain prize - Ciccone, Bidar, Ovsyan and Frapporti earned 9, 4, 2 and 1 point, respectively. On the descent from Montalbano, the teams of generals and sprinters began to work in the peloton alternately. The gap was eliminated a little less than 10 km before the finish. In the final sprint, German champion Pascal Ackerman was ahead of Elia Viviani and Caleb Ewan , having won his first victory in the first stage of his grand tour of his career.

Stage 14

When climbing to the top of the first ascent of the 2nd category, the peloton broke into groups and the first attacks began. Mikel Landa , Simon Yates and Primoz Roglich accelerated, but Vincenzo Nibali , Jan Polanz , Richard Karapas and Pavel Sivakov did not allow the rivals to leave. As a result, the peloton gathered, and Andrei Amador , Mattia Cattaneo , Fausto Masnada , Lucas Hamilton , Christopher Jul-Jensen and Hugh Carty , who were transferred to the mountain classification leader Julio Ciccone and Ivan Sosa , went ahead.

The gap was released for a minute and a half, and the team of Primoz Roglich " Jumbo-Visma " led the peloton. On the second lift of the day, Tony Gallopan and Hubert Dupont , as well as Jon Isagirre and Damiano Caruso, attacked from the peloton. But the gap did not manage to gain more than one and a half minutes of advantage.

When the most difficult ascent of the day began, Colle San Carlo (10.5 km long, 1031 m vertical drop, average gradient 9.8%, maximum gradient 15%), attacks began in the group of generals. As a result, Vincenzo Nibali, Primoz Roglich, Mikel Landa, Richard Karapas and Miguel Angel Lopez left.
