Geography

It is located in the southern part of the Luzicky Lakes region in the very north of Boxberg. To the north of the village is a surface coal mine called Tagebau-Reichwalde . The highway S 131 passes through the village.

Neighboring settlements: in the east - the village of Nowy Luboln of the commune of Richen , in the south - the villages of Khreby and Chernsk of the commune of Kreba-Neudorf , in the south-west - the villages of Radshovk and Dyrbakh and in the west - the village of Kryngelyets [2] .

History

First mentioned in 1364 under the name Rychenwald [3] .

The population of the village increased significantly after World War II during the development of nearby brown coal deposits and reached its maximum in the 1960s. After the unification of Germany in 1991, some coal mines were closed and the population fell to the level of the beginning of the 19th century.

Since 1999, it has been part of the modern commune of Boxberg [4] .

Currently, the village is part of the cultural and territorial autonomy of the “ Luzhitsky Settlement Region ”, on the territory of which there are legislative acts of the lands of Saxony and Brandenburg, contributing to the preservation of the Luzhitsky languages and the culture of Luzhic [5] [6] .
