Geography
It is located in the southern part of the Luzicky Lakes region in the very north of Boxberg. In the north and southeast, the village is surrounded by the Upper Puddle military training ground. To the north of the village is a surface coal mine called Tagebau-Nochten , in the northeast is the 20-hectare Nochten Rock Garden park and in the southwest is the Boxberg Thermal Power Station.
The highway K 8475 passes through the village, connecting it in the south with the federal highway B 156.
History
The village has an ancient Slavic circular form of building residential buildings with an area in the center. It was first mentioned in 1400 under the Serboluzhitsky name Ochoze [2] .
The population of the village increased significantly after World War II during the development of nearby brown coal deposits and the construction of the nearby Boxberg Thermal Power Station and peaked in the 1960s. After the reunification of Germany in 1991, some coal mines in the south of the village were closed, they were restored and the population fell to the level of the beginning of the 19th century.
Until 1994, it was part of the commune of Yamen. Since 1994, it has been part of the modern commune of Boxberg [3] .
Currently, the village is part of the cultural and territorial autonomy of the “ Luzhitsky Settlement Region ”, on the territory of which there are legislative acts of the lands of Saxony and Brandenburg, contributing to the preservation of the Luzhitsky languages and culture of Luzhic [4] [5] .
