The Baikal-Lensky State Nature Reserve was established in 1986 [1] . The Baikal-Lensky Reserve is located on the northwestern coast of Baikal , stretching for about 120 km along the western coast of Baikal, with an average width of 65 km.

The reserve area is 659.919 ha. The administrative and scientific center of the reserve is located in Irkutsk . The climate of the reserve is generally continental.

Flora and fauna
The flora of the reserve has about 130 species of fungi, 920 species of vascular plants. On the coast of Baikal, fragments of ancient relict steppes have been preserved, the forest covered area is 86% of the entire reserve. On the slopes of the Baikal Range , high altitude zone vegetation is clearly pronounced.
The fauna of the birds of the reserve has 235 species, of which 146 are nesting.
The reserve is inhabited by 52 species of mammals.
The Baikal seal is regularly found along the protected coast of Lake Baikal.
