Biography
In 1588, Henry I took the Saluzzo from the French for his cousin, the Duke of Savoy. The princes de Guise, his half-brothers, persuaded him to join the Catholic League , and in 1591 he became governor of Dauphine on behalf of this faction. He took the oath of allegiance to Henry IV in 1596. After a quarrel with the Duke of Savoy, he retired to Burgundy and joined the Spaniards in their war against Savoy. After the declaration of peace on November 14, 1616 he remained at the French court [4] .
Henry I was married to Anna (1600-1638), daughter of Karl of Lorraine , Duke of Omal. They had three sons:
- (1615-1641), 5th Duke de Nemours.
- Charles III (1624–1652), 6th Duke of Nemours.
- Henry II (1625-1659), 7th Duke de Nemours.
He was succeeded by the eldest son Louis; after his death, the duchy passed to Karl, and after the death of Karl to Henry [4] .
