Psalter card

Psalter card - a card from the psalms (on the first page) of the early 1260s. Stored at the British Library in London . Diameter is 31.5 inches. It was probably made in Westminster Abbey in the second half of the 13th century (after 1262, but no later than the mid-1260s) [1] .

Description

The map contains about 145 geographical names. Signature: L. Bl. Add. 28681. f. 9 [1] .

Above the map - the earthly sphere - rises a half-length image of Jesus Christ surrounded by angels burning incense . In his left hand the Savior holds a globe similar to the model of the medieval map of the T — O type (a T-shaped cross is inscribed in a circle), a miniature is placed in the eastern part of the map [1] .

To the left of the miniature of Paradise in the upper part of the map there is a legend - “Sama [ra]” , and nearby (north-east) is the “city of Iazaron” ( lat. C [ivitas] Iazaron ) - the distorted “Khazar city” [1] .
