Stefan Schuster - a graduate of the Humboldt University in Berlin , in the same department of theoretical biophysics under the leadership of Reinhart Heinrich, he defended his thesis on "Theoretical studies of the relationship between the temporal hierarchy and the principles of optimization of enzymatic reactions." Since 2003 - Professor of the Department of Bioinformatics at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. He is the editor of BioSystems magazine, published by Elsevier .

Stefan Schuster's area of interest includes bioinformatics and systems theory, including evolutionary game theory [1] , the theory of metabolic control [2] , biological oscillations [3], and analysis of metabolic pathways [4] .
The methods developed by Stefan Schuster in the field of the theory of metabolic control and analysis of metabolic fluxes allowed, inter alia, to predict the viability of bacterial mutants [5] , calculate the metabolic rate of coenzymes [6] , determine the level of production of antibiotics [7] , and evaluate the possibility of carbohydrate synthesis from fats in humans and higher animals through detours of metabolism [8] .
