Biography
Richard James Lundy was born on August 14, 1907 in Sault Sainte-Marie ( Michigan , USA ). His father's name was James, his mother - Minnie, he was the only child in the family. Shortly after the birth of Richard, his family moved to Detroit , where the father of the family got a job as an inspector at the Burroughs Adding machine Company . When the boy was ten years old, his parents divorced, and Richard and his mother moved to the city of Port Huron , but soon returned to Detroit, where Minny got a job as a waitress. In 1928, Richard went to Los Angeles , in the center of the film industry in America, to begin to fully engage in his favorite business - animation [5] .
Immediately upon his arrival in Los Angeles, Landi was hired by Walt Disney Animation Studios in the “ink and paint department”. After a couple of months, he was promoted: he began working as an “inbitwinner” , that is, as an assistant multiplier, who drew the intermediate frames between the main frames. Six months later he became a full-fledged animator of Disney's studio [3] . In 1933, in the animated film "The Three Little Pigs ", Dick Landi, who had a special gift in the image of dancing, did all the scenes with the pigs dancing to the sound of his brisk song. [4] In 1939, Landi was first entrusted to become a cartoon director (they were “ ”) [6] , he did an excellent job with this task and over the next decade and a half he directed to about fifty cartoons.
In 1943, Landi left Disney and got a job at , the most successful work at this studio, The Poet & Peasant and Musical Moments from Chopin (both nominated for an Oscar), and Woody the Giant Killer and Playful Pelican. [4] In 1949, he moved to the little-known studio Wolff Productions , where he worked in television advertising. The following year, Landi returned to full-fledged animation, this time at . In 1959, he again changed jobs by going to Hanna-Barbera . In 1973, the 66-year-old animator retired, but over the next seven years he worked a little more as a freelancer [6] : he became a multiplier for nine episodes of two animated series (1974 and 1977) and one cartoon (1980).
Dick Lundy passed away on April 7, 1990 in the city of San Diego ( California ).
Personal life
Dick Lundy was married twice. In 1932 he married his colleague named Juanita Sheridan (1906–1974). Two years later, a divorce followed [7] .
The second time Lundy married in 1939, a girl named Ann [5] .
