Biography
Son of Antonio Manrique de Lara , 2nd Duke de Najera, and Juana Folk de Cardona.
In 1520, his father sent him to La Rioja and Alava with two thousand infantry and forty horsemen to quell the rebellion of the commune ; After gathering reinforcements, he entered Vitoria , and then attacked the rebellious Count de Salvatierra in his own possessions and pacified the regions of Old Castile and northern Burgos . In October 1520, he joined the viceroy in Medina de Rioseco with five hundred warriors, and on December 5, 1520 participated in the storming of Tordesillas , where the rebels held Queen Juan . He fought in the battle of Villalar on April 23, 1521.
In 1535, he succeeded his father. He was the governor of the castle Davalillo, general treasurer of Biscay , accompanied the emperor to Italy, took part in the Tunisian expedition (1535). Participated in the meetings of the Cortes of Castile and Leon in the years 1538-1539. In 1543 he again went with the emperor to the war with the French, then accompanied Charles on a campaign in Geldern .
In January 1546, at the capitulum in Utrecht, he was accepted by the emperor as a knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece . At the end of 1546 he returned to Spain. He was accompanied by Infante Philip on his trips to the Netherlands (1549) and England (1554). In 1556 he received in Valladolid the emperor and his sisters queens of France and Hungary . He died in 1558, and was buried in the ducal tomb in the chapel of Santa Maria la Real de Najera.
Family
1st wife (1521): Aldons de Urrea-y-Cardona , daughter of Count Aranda. His cousin was bothering him, the marriage was dissolved in the same year by the decision of the pope. The son of this union was not recognized as legitimate.
2nd wife (08.1529, Toledo ): Louise de Acuna y Manuel (1/8/1507-10.10.1570), Countess de Valencia de Don Juan, the only daughter and heiress of Enrique de Acquni, 4th earl de Valencia de Don Juan, and Aldonza Manuel
