Biography
Came from the noble family of Folk de Cardona . Son of Antonio de Cardona, Count of Caltabelotta, Baron de Mald and Maldanelle, Viceroy of Sicily (1416-1421), and Leonor de Villena, ladies de la Reina (or Margarita de Peralta).
While still very young, he was appointed to an important post of Master of Justice of the Kingdom of Sicily.
He accompanied King Alphonse V of Aragon during the conquest of the Kingdom of Naples, and was one of his main commanders. He participated in the unsuccessful siege of Naples in 1438, and led the last assault. He commanded one of the five columns at the Battle of Carpenon, led the conquest of Piombino . After the capture of Naples, in 1444 he received the county of Golisano (now Collesano) in the province of Palermo , taken by the king from the rebel Antonio di Ventimiglia.
He was the royal cameling, the second most important at court after the senior mayordom of Guevara; his functions included caring for the royal person, his chamber and table, and jurisdiction over the court.
He was sent by ambassador to Philip III of Burgundy , with whom Alfons sought to conclude an alliance against the Anjou dynasty . Philip, in turn, counted on the help of the Neapolitan king in carrying out the crusade, and therefore tried to win over an influential courtier. In May 1451, at the chapter in Mons, Pedro de Cardona was elected to the number of knights of the Order of the Golden Fleece (in Burgundy they did not know that he had died in 1450).
