The ways of the Lord are inscrutable (also the ways of the Lord are inscrutable , from Rom. 11:33 , O, the abyss of wealth and wisdom and knowledge of God! How inconceivable are His destinies and his paths are unexplored! ) Is a biblical winged expression expressing the unpredictability of life, the impossibility of foreseeing all twists of fate known only to God. Used in relation to what may happen or has already happened, but cannot be explained [1] . It indicates the incomprehensibility of God's purpose (cf. Isa. 55: 9 , but as heaven is above the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts are higher than your thoughts ) [2] .
The expression is used in many languages [3] . Unlike the Russian language, where the high-style book word “inscrutable” is used, most other Bible translations use neutral vocabulary [1] .
When journalists use the expression, it is often modified (up to a quarter of the cases), the word “Lord” is usually replaced, for example, “the ways of fashion are mysterious”, “the ways of Russian classics are mysterious” [4] .
