Danish-Finnish relations

On January 10, 1918, Denmark and Sweden were the first countries to recognize the independence of Finland . On February 18, 1918, Denmark officially established diplomatic relations with Finland ^[1] . During the Soviet-Finnish War (1939-1940), more than 1,000 Danish volunteers came to the aid of the Finnish army ^[2] . During the Soviet-Finnish War (1939-1940) and the Soviet-Finnish War (1941-1944), Denmark received 4,200 Finnish war children ^[3] .

Both countries are currently members of the European Union , the Nordic Passport Union , the Council of the Baltic Sea States , the Nordic Culture Fund, the Nordic Council and the Finnish-Danish Culture Fund.

In 2016, Finland delivered goods to Denmark in the amount of 965.69 million US dollars. The main exports of Finland to Denmark are: electrical engineering, iron and steel, machinery ^[4] . In 2017, Denmark's exports to Finland amounted to $ 2.04 billion. Denmark's main exports to Finland: machinery, electrical engineering, mineral fuels and distillation products ^[5] . In 2018, Danish exports to Finland amounted to $ 2 billion, making Finland the 11th largest trading partner of Denmark ^[6] .

In 2017, 113,000 Danes visited Finland, and 206,000 Finnish tourists visited Denmark ^{[7] [8]} .

• Denmark has an embassy in Helsinki ^[9] .
• Finland maintains an embassy in Copenhagen ^[10] (since 2017, Vesa Vasara has been the Finnish Ambassador to Copenhagen).
