The author of El padre Horán, considered the first Peruvian novel and one of the first South American novels in Spanish. N. Arestegi, along with Mariano Melgar, is also considered one of the prominent founders of Indigenousism in Peru, a trend in social thought, art and literature in Latin America.
Biography
He studied at the National College of Sciences and Arts in Cuzco , then until 1852 he studied law at the National University of San Antonio Abad in Cuzco. He worked as a teacher of ancient and modern history and literature, as a librarian.
In connection with the threat of war with Bolivia in 1853 joined the militia of the National Guard. Member of the battles during the revolutions of 1854-1855. He became a lieutenant colonel .
He was appointed prefect of Cuzco , and then there as a military judge. Since 1858 - Colonel .
Rector of the National College of Sciences and Arts (1865). In 1868 he was appointed prefect of Puno .
While walking on Lake Titicaca , a yacht with thirteen people on board turned over, as a result of which 5 people drowned, including Narsiso Arestegi.
