On this day, Crown Prince of Denmark Frederick and Crown Princess of Sweden Victoria met in the middle of the bridge to mark the completion of construction. The official opening took place on July 1, 2000 with the participation of Queen Margrethe II and King Charles XVI Gustav as guests of honor. The crossing was open for traffic on the same day.
