Formation, career

Born in 1960.

He studied at the physics and mathematics school number 239 mountains. Leningrad (1977 issue). In 1983, he graduated with honors from the Leningrad Electrotechnical Institute (LETI) in the Department of Optoelectronics , the base for the Physicotechnical Institute [1] .

All further scientific biography of Ivanov is associated with the Physicotechnical Institute . A.F. Ioffe (FTI), where he went from a trainee researcher to the head of the laboratory of quantum-dimensional heterostructures and the molecular beam epitaxy group. In the same place, at the Physicotechnical Institute, he defended his Ph.D.

As an expert, he was repeatedly invited to visit universities and research centers in Germany (spent a total of 1 year there), Japan (a total of 2 months) and other countries [1] .

Since October 2018, he has temporarily acted as director of the Physicotechnical Institute. In May 2019, the institute staff elected him to the post of director [2] [3] ; After the formalities are settled, he will officially take office.

Scientific activity

Ivanov is known as a specialist in the field of molecular beam epitaxy technology and the physics of semiconductor heterostructures ( materials A III B V , A II B VI , A III nitrides).

Among the most important scientific results obtained with his participation [2] :

  • development of new epitaxial technologies for A III B V nanoheterostructures and A II B VI wide - gap compounds, structures with quantum dots (QDs) of CdSe and magnetic semiconductors
  • prototyping of instrument structures: ultra-low threshold laser diodes with separate limitation in the AlGaAs system, InSb CT lasers and mid- IR photodetectors in the AlGaSbAs / InAsSb system, AlGaN-based LEDs and mid- UV lasers, high-efficiency blue-green electron-beam pumped lasers and laser converters based on CdSe / ZnSe nanostructures, HEMT transistors with an InAs channel;
  • implementation of the original concept of the integration of nanolayers of compounds A III B V and A II B VI , which allows expanding the possibilities of designing new- generation optical , micro- and spin-electronic devices.

Co-author of over 800 published scientific papers, including 10 chapters in monographs and 6 patents. In total, his works were cited almost 10,000 times, the Hirsch index was 35 ( RSCI data for April 2019) [4] . He spoke at Russian and international conferences, made about 40 invited reports.

The research activity of the scientist was noted by the awarding of a number of prizes at his institute, thanks to the President of the RAS [1] .

Teaching, organizational work

As a mentor, Ivanov prepared 6 candidates of physical and mathematical sciences [2] .

Concurrently, since 2004 he has been teaching at two universities in St. Petersburg: he teaches a course in molecular beam epitaxy to students of the Academic University (SPbAU) , founded by Zh. I. Alferov , and his alma mater . Professor [1] .

He is a member of the dissertation councils of the Physicotechnical Institute and St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University “LETI”, is a member of the program and coordination committees of regular international conferences on physics and technology of semiconductors, an expert of the Russian Federal Property Fund and RSF , a member of the editorial board of the journal “Superlattices and Microstructures” [2] .
