Biography

George Walter Rose was born on February 19, 1920 in the town of ( Charwell , Oxfordshire , England). His father's name was Walter John Alfred Rose; he was a butcher; mother's name was Eva Sarah Rolf. George was the only child in the family [4] . After graduating from high school, George began working as a secretary at the University of Oxford , then he served in the army for three years [5] , after which he entered the Central School of Stage Speech and Dramatic Art . In 1946, Rose made a theatrical debut in the Broadway production of Henry IV, Part 1 . He served in the Old Vic Theater [5] , was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company . Since 1953, Rose began acting in films and television, and over 35 years of film career appeared in 75 films and TV shows. In the mid-1960s, the actor moved permanently to the United States, to New York, without changing his British citizenship [5] .

George Rose was a rather extravagant man, for example, he kept a domesticated 27 kg lynx , a Geoffrey cat , a caracal , several ordinary cats and dogs, expensive parrots and other rare animals - many of his pets accompanied Rose on his tour, living in a specially equipped for them a motor home. The actor had a huge collection of phonograph records with approximately 17,000 songs [4] . In 1984, he acquired a large house with three bedrooms, a swimming pool, a chic plot and ocean views in the city of Sosua in the Dominican Republic , where he spent all his free time [4] .

Personal life and death

Rose was a homosexual, he did not have a family, children or a regular partner. Thinking about whom he would leave an inheritance of two million dollars after his death, the actor in 1986 adopted a 16-year-old local teenager named Juan, who by that time had already lived in Rose's house for two years, surrounded by his care [4] .
On May 5, 1988, Rose was at his home on a two-week break on a tour of the United States with the production of " ." His adoptive son told his biological father that the old actor was sexually harassing him. The man took his brother and friend with him, and four (including a teenager) [6] broke into the actor’s house and beat him to death with golf clubs [7] . After they tried to stage Rose’s death in a car accident, but it turned out very awkwardly and soon all four confessed to the murder. The criminals were imprisoned, but Juan was soon released. In accordance with the will, he entered into inheritance rights, since it was his guilt of murder that was not proved. The young man quickly sold the house in which he had lived with Rose for the past four years for 250 thousand dollars [8] (6-7 times less than its real value) and left for the USA. Seven years later, he returned to his native Sosua, spending all the money. His father, a friend of his father and uncle were released in March 1997, and they spent almost nine years behind bars without initiating criminal proceedings, which is not uncommon in the Dominican Republic [4] .

George Rose is buried in an anonymous grave in Sosua.
