Content

Description

Body length up to 13 cm, weight up to 45 g. Life expectancy of about 4 years. The body is elongated, not too high, moderately compressed laterally. The chest and throat are completely covered with scales, sometimes they can be partially or completely bare. The caudal stem is laterally compressed, relatively short, its height is greater than the thickness at the level of the last ray of the anal fin. The snout is quite long (2.1-2.5 times the length of the head). The forehead is wide. The eyes are small. Antennae short, usually not reaching front edge of eye. The anus is closer to the anal fin than to the ventral. The general background of the color is grayish-silver, dark on the upper part of the head and body. On the sides of the body there are 7-11 (usually 8-9) rounded dark spots, separated from each other. On the dorsal, caudal and pectoral fins there are not clear dark points that form several rows. In sexually mature males, the body and fins are dark gray, the belly is covered with numerous dark gray spots.

Range

Endemic of Crimea . It occurs on the plain part of the Black River [2] .

Biology

Biology is not well understood. Freshwater river bottom flock of residential fish. It occurs mainly in clean, well-aerated river waters. The coasts are kept, where they live in areas with a moderate current and rocky, sand-gravel or sandy, somewhat silty soil. Often hiding among stones, under washed banks, flooded trees, etc. Spawning takes place on warmed shallows, caviar is also deposited on stones and vegetation. It feeds mainly on benthos animals (worms, insect larvae, etc.), as well as fish caviar and partially vegetation.
