Chertany (Large)

Chertany [2] (Great Chertany [3] ) is a lake in Russia . It is located in the Pervomaisky District of the Tomsk Region , on the right bank of the lower reaches of the Chichkayul River [2] in the confluence of the ancient hollow of the drain and the second terrace [3] , between the rivers Chichkayul and Uluyul. Turkic churtans / chortaly / chertanly / chortanlyg means “pike” ( tat. Churtan - pike, pike) [4] . The lake is rounded, about 2 kilometers in diameter. The prevailing depths are 2–3 meters. The area of ​​the reservoir is 3.9318 square kilometers (393.18 hectares) [5] . One of the largest lakes in the area, along with the lake Shchuchye [3] . Perch and pike live here.

The lake is located on the territory of the State zoological reserve of regional significance "October" [3] . The area of ​​the reserve is 265.32 square kilometers (26,532 hectares). The Lake Svetloe and three nameless lakes are also located on the reserve [5] . This is a natural natural reserve for the restoration of the number of wood-grouse . The main objects of special protection are the wood-grouse and its habitats [3] [5] .

The lake is a key ornithological area (CATF) of federal significance. It is of great importance for stopping birds during seasonal migrations ( whooper swan , small swan and other species). Black-throated Diver , Great Cobweb , Osprey , Great Spotted Eagle, and Swirling Warbler [6] [7] are registered.
