Description

Small insects, usually less than 3 mm long. Mesonotum with a pair of bristle-shaped protrusions. The head is elongated conical. Antennae 4- or 5-segmented. The pronotum is separated from the rest of the breast, but the mesonotum and methanotum are not merged. Six III spiracles are located on the III – VIII abdominal segments [1] . They differ from other representatives of Amblycera by a pair of protrusions on the mesotum, with the methanotum fused with the first tergite, not fused with the meso and methanotum, the absence of microtrichia on the thighs and legs of the third pair of legs, two claws on the legs of the second and third pair, the presence of labial palps and 4-segmented maxillary palps (sometimes 3 or 2 of them). Parasitize on marsupial mammals [3] [4] .
