Biography

Zipoit was one of the youngest sons of Nycomed I , born in a marriage with the second wife of Tsar Etazeta . After the death of Nycomed, a civil war broke out in Bithynia, during which Etazeta and her young children were supported by some Greek policies and, possibly, Macedonia and Egypt , and the eldest son of Nycomed Ziael - by the Galatians and, according to A. Balakhvantsev, the Syrian king Antiochus II . After “many battles and changes,” the parties were around 254–253 BC. e. concluded a peace treaty. Apparently, the territory of the country was divided, while the capital Nicomedia did not belong to Ziail. However, after some time, probably in 250-249 BC. e., Ziael was able to become the sovereign ruler of Bithynia and deal with his opponents. Zipoit took refuge in Macedonia.

At the end of the 220s BC e. Byzantium , forced to pay a burdensome tribute to the Galatians, introduced increased customs duties for the passage of merchant ships through the Bosphorus . Rhodes , whose economic interests suffered due to these actions, after a failed attempt to resolve the situation through diplomatic negotiations, turned to Prussia I for help. The actions of the allies were successful, so the Byzantines tried to organize indignation in Bithynia itself, for which they turned to Zipoit, who was in Macedonia. According to A. S. Balakhvantsev, the ambassadors could remind Zipoit about the previous merits of the city to him, as well as promise help in the dynastic struggle. According to Gabelko, O. L. , like several decades ago, Macedonia was in hostile relations with Bithynia, so Philip V eagerly responded to this call. However, on the way home, Zipoit died.
