Windows 10 Editions


Windows 10 has 12 releases. All with different feature sets, use cases, or intended devices. Some issues are distributed only on devices directly from the device manufacturer, while issues such as Corporate and Educational are available only through volume licensing channels. Microsoft is also making releases of Windows 10 available to device manufacturers, including smartphones ( Windows 10 Mobile ) and IoT devices .

Base Editions

Base issues are the only issues available as individual purchases at retail outlets.

Home
Windows 10 Home is for use on PCs, tablets, and 2-in-1 PCs. Includes all functions aimed at consumers . [1] [2] [3]
Professional
Windows 10 Professional includes all the features of Windows 10 Home with additional business- oriented features such as Active Directory, Remote Desktop , BitLocker , Hyper-V, and Windows Defender Device Defender. [1] [2] [3]

Professional for workstations

Windows 10 Professional for workstations is designed for high-performance equipment and for intensive computing tasks. Supports Intel Xeon , AMD Opteron and the latest AMD Epyc processors ; up to 4 processors; up to 6 TB of RAM; file system ReFS ; Non-volatile dual random access memory ( NVDIMM ); and remote direct memory access (RDMA). Editions for organizations

In these releases, features have been added that facilitate the centralized management of many OS installations within the organization. The primary way to acquire them is a volume licensing contract with Microsoft.

Educational
Windows 10 Education is distributed under the academic volume licensing program. It was built on the basis of Windows 10 Enterprise and initially had the same feature set. [1] [2] [3] However, starting with version 1709, this edition has fewer features.
Professional educational
This edition was presented in July 2016 for hardware partners on new devices purchased under a reduced academic license K - 12 . It is built on the basis of the Professional version of Windows 10 and contains basically the same functions as Windows 10 Professional, with various settings disabled by default, and adds settings for configuration and deployment in the educational environment. There is also an “Configure School Computers” application that allows you to configure settings using a USB flash drive and does not include Cortana, the Microsoft Store app store, or Windows Spotlight. Corporate
Windows 10 Enterprise provides all the features of Windows 10 Professional, as well as additional features that help IT organizations. Corporate LTSC
Enterprise LTSC (Long-Term Service Channel) is a long-term version of Windows 10 Enterprise support that is released every 2-3 years. Each release is supported by security updates for 10 years after its release and intentionally does not receive feature updates. Some features, including the Microsoft Store and embedded applications, are not included in this release. [11] [1] [3] This edition was first released as a Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB (Long-Term Service Branch). [12] There are currently 3 LTSC releases: one in 2015 (version 1507), one in 2016 (version 1607) and one in 2018 (version 1809). [13]

Editions for specific devices

These releases are licensed only to device manufacturers . The main way to purchase these issues is to purchase certain devices (such as smartphones ) on which they are pre-installed.

Internet of things
Designed specifically for use in compact, low-cost devices and IoT scenarios. This is a renamed version of earlier Microsoft embedded operating systems, Windows Embedded . Three releases have already been announced: IoT Core, IoT Corporate and IoT Mobile Enterprise. [14] [15] [16]

Team

Windows 10 Team is a version of Windows 10 for a specific device, downloaded to the Surface Hub . [17]
