Description
Medium-sized retinal-winged insects (about 1 cm) with wide oval wings. It differs from closely related species by a vertex with a rare puncture; Parameres divided with a toothed apex. The apex of the fore wing and its ventral margins are widely rounded. The color of the veins of the wings is variegated. First merger (fork) of the anterior cubitus of the anterior wing (CuA) near or close to the mediocubital vein (m + cuig) In the fore wing, between the veins M and the first proximal branch of the vein Rs there is a transverse vein; returnable vein developed. Antennae distinct-shaped, pronotum with lateral outgrowths. Adults and larvae of predators feed mainly on aphids (aphidophages). The species was first described in 1928 under the original name Boriomyia brunnea Banks, 1928 [2] , and its valid status was confirmed during an audit carried out in 2019 by Mexican entomologists Yesenia Marquez-López ( Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Iztapalapa, Ciudad de Mijo ) and Atilano Contreras-Ramos ( Ciudad Universitaria, Ciudad de México ; Mexico City , Mexico ) [1] [3] .
