Dick Purcell ( born Dick Purcell ; August 6, 1905 ; Greenwich - April 10, 1944 , Hollywood ) is an American actor known for his role in the series Captain America (1944), the films Heroes in Blue (1939) and The Daredevil Drivers (1938). He was married to Ethelind Terry . Died of a heart attack .

Early life
Purcell was born in Greenwich , Connecticut, in 1905. He was one of 5 children. He attended a Catholic elementary school and high school, before enrolling as a student at the University of Fordham , in which he was a member of the hockey team.
Early work in cinema
Dick Purcell began his acting career in the theater, playing in at least three plays: Men in White (1933) , Sailor, Beware! , Paths of Glory . During the Paths of Glory show, he was spotted and this led to a small role in the film Ceiling Zero (1936) . His next film was Man Hunt (1936), in which Purcell played a large role as a newspaper reporter. In 1936, he appears in 11 films.
Captain America
“ Captain America ” (1944) is a series released by Republic Pictures , which is based on the comic book character Captain America . This was the last superhero series released by Republic Pictures. He also holds the title of the most expensive series ever produced by Republic Pictures.
Dick Purcell got the role of Grant Gartner / Captain America.
The role that made Dick Pursell famous was his last, he died a few weeks after the filming was completed before the series was released. According to movie historian Ray Steadman, the tension from filming Captain America was too great for his heart. He died in the locker room of a country club, shortly after playing golf.
