History
In 1964, Kuwait and the Federal Republic of Germany established diplomatic relations. Germany is highly regarded in Kuwait as one of the main political and economic forces in Europe and as a country that traditionally maintains good relations with the Arab world . In October 2016, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait, Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, made an official visit to Berlin, and his German counterpart, Sigmar Gabriel, made state visits to Kuwait in April and June 2017. Trading
In 2016, exports of goods from Germany to Kuwait amounted to 1.4 billion euros , and Germany’s imports of goods from Kuwait to approximately 19 million euros, which makes Kuwait Germany’s ninth largest trading partner in the Middle East . Kuwait is the fourth largest market for German goods among the members of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Persian Gulf . German exports to Kuwait: luxury vehicles, machinery, industrial facilities (in particular, power plants), electrical goods, chemical products, iron products and medical equipment. Kuwait has made significant investments in the German economy and has shares in leading German companies. In 1987, an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation between Germany and Kuwait came into force, which was re-signed in 1999. On November 15, 1997, an agreement on the promotion and protection of investments between countries entered into force. In January 2017, the fifth meeting of the joint German-Kuwaiti commission on economic, trade and technical cooperation was held in Berlin [1] .
