Tectonic conditions of the region
In Tajikistan, medium-sized earthquakes are recorded almost monthly, since 93% of the republic’s territory is the Pamir and Tien Shan mountain systems. These earthquakes rarely cause damage [5] .
Consequences
The earthquake was felt mainly in the southern and eastern regions of the republic, including Gorno-Badakhshan , where the highest mountain lake in the Pamirs is Sarez [7] .
As a result of the earthquake, about 20 thousand people were injured, 1 person was injured, 1134 lost their shelter [2] . As a result of the earthquake on January 2, 2010 in the Vanj district (in the east of Tajikistan), more than 1.2 thousand families were left homeless. In total, over 5 thousand families were relocated from the exogenous zones of this region [8] .
According to Tajik authorities, as a result of the earthquake, 20 thousand people were left without a roof over their heads as a result of the earthquake. Tremors destroyed over 1050 buildings in the Vanch district center and the Rog and Gishkon villages [9] . In many cases, we are talking about adobe buildings of the mid-twentieth century. January 3, 2010 there was no telephone connection and there was no power supply from Vancha to the Horn and Gishkon [10] . Country roads were damaged. An underground shock provoked rockfalls and mudflows, blocking the road from the administrative center of the region - the city of Khorog to the district center of Vanch, in whose territory the village of Gishkhok is located. The road from Khorog to Vancha remained blocked - mudflows and rockfalls descended on it [11] .
The analysis of the blockages was carried out at the initial stage on their own. In Vancha, a commission of representatives of local authorities and an emergency committee began work [12] .
According to the deputy chairman of the Vanj district, Azimdzhon Shamsiddinov, “As a result of this incident, no human casualties occurred, but the houses of rural residents were partially destroyed. Some dwellings cannot be restored. We are talking about the villages of Gishon, Horn and others ” [13] . Referring to the same official, the Interfax news agency reported that 1050 houses of rural residents were partially or completely destroyed. The deputy head of the disaster-affected area reported that the damage amounted to at least $ 1.5 million [3] . Lost shelters were placed with relatives, in schools and other common areas [14] .
