Distribution

The Palaearctic , from the steppes and semi-deserts to forests and mountains. North to 62 degrees. N (Yakutia) [1] [2] .

Description

Wingspan 1-3 cm (11 to 34 mm). Wings are transparent (without scales). Outwardly similar to wasps (the main color is black with yellow or whitish marks). The proboscis is short, reduced. Lepidoptera flying in the afternoon, adults are observed in the summer. Caterpillars feed on the roots of grasses and shrubs of legumes and others. The valid status was confirmed during an audit conducted in 2018 by Russian lepidopterologists O.G. Gorbunov ( A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences , Moscow ) and K.A. Efetov ( Crimean Federal University named after V. I. Vernadsky , Simferopol ) [1] [2] [3] .
