Noa Baumbach ( born Noah Baumbach ; born September 3, 1969 , New York , USA ) is an American film director and screenwriter and actor. Nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for the film “ Squid and the Whale ” (2005).

Early years
Baumbach, the third child of four in the family, was born in Brooklyn , New York , in the family of the writer and film critic Jonathan Baumbakh, and critic of The Village Voice , Georgia Brown. He graduated from Vassar College , where he received a bachelor's degree in English in 1991 [1] . His father is Jewish and his mother is Protestant. [2]
Career
Baumbach made his cinematic debut at the age of 24, writing a script and then making a film about growing up “ Forget and Remember ”, which immediately gained popularity among film critics.
The main success of the young cinematographer came in 2005, when his semi-autobiographical comedy drama “ Squid and the Whale ” came out on American screens: it was just his third cinematograph, but Baumbach received the prestigious Oscar nomination for the original script. In 2007, the director released a new comedy drama called " Margot at the wedding ."
Personal Life
In 2001, Baumbach met actress Jennifer Jason Lee . They were married on September 2, 2005. Their son, Romer Emmanuel, was born on March 17, 2010. In November 2010, Li filed for divorce, stating “irreconcilable differences” as a reason [3] . The divorce proceedings were completed in September 2013 [4] .
Since 2011, Baumbach has been in a relationship with actress and screenwriter Greta Gerwig [5] [1] . In March 2019, it became known that they had a son [6] [7] .
