Biography

Mustafa-bek Vekilov was born in September 1896 in the village of Salahly, Kazakh district . After graduating from the Baku gymnasium, in 1912 he entered the law faculty of Moscow State University . In 1917, he uploaded the university and returned to Baku , at which time Mustafa-bey began political activity. Appointed Deputy Commissioner of the Baku Province. In October, at the first kurultai of the Musavat party , he was elected a member of the Central Committee. And in November, Vekilov became secretary of the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Transcaucasian Commissariat , Chkhenkili, as well as a member of the Muslim faction of the Sejm. After the proclamation of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918 , Mustafa bey works in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. On December 7 of the same year, the Azerbaijani parliament opens and there he begins the activities of a deputy and becomes a member of the budget and finance commission. In 1919, he became Deputy Minister of the Interior, Nasib-beck Yusifbeyli . And on February 18, 1920, he was appointed Minister of the Interior [1] .

During his work as Minister of the Interior, armed clashes took place in Karabakh . March 22, 1920, on the day of the Novruz holiday , there is a military clash in Shusha and its environs. Parliament holds a meeting in connection with this [1] . Mustafa bey Vekilov speaks at the meeting:

“On the one hand, due to the fact that the people were relaxing at home on the occasion of the holiday, on the other hand, people did not expect such betrayal and attacks, this situation was sudden. Despite this, our military units in Shusha , the officers at their head, repulsed their attack with heroic speed ” [2] [3] .

On April 28, 1920, the Bolsheviks occupied the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic . Since that time, Mustafa bey has been hiding in the house of the villagers. Later, from there he moved to Tiflis , however, after the Bolsheviks approached, he emigrated to Turkey . In 1924, Vekilov became a member of the Central Committee of the Azerbaijan National Center, which operated in Istanbul . In 1928, he appeared in the Prometheus movement, and a year later left the Azerbaijan National Center and left for Poland . Later Mustafa Bek is engaged in political activities in Germany , France , Switzerland . At the end of World War II, he returned to Turkey . Here Vekilov works in newspapers and magazines “Odlu Yurd”, “Azəri-Türk”, “Yeni Qafqaziyyə”, “Yurd bilgisi”. After moving away from the political wing, Mammad Emin Rasulzadeh , works in the magazine "Mücahit". Later, Mustafa bey becomes legal secretary at the Provincial Bank in Ankara [4] . While in Turkey, he also participated in the funeral of Mustaf Kemal Ataturk in 1938 [5] . Mustafa-Bek Vekilov died on November 1, 1965 in Ankara [6] .
