History

Yong Ajax is the reserve team of Ajax . The team consists mainly of professional football players, many of whom are recent graduates of the youth team or players who do not fall into the first team. [four]

From 1992 to 2013, Yong Ajax performed at Beloften Eredivisi , competing with other reserve teams such as Yong PSV, Yong Groningen or Yong AZ. They have won eight championships among reservists (which is a league record) [5] and three times the Netherlands Cup among reservists , making them the most successful reserve staff in the Netherlands. Having won Beloften Eredivisi , “Jong Ajax” got the right to play in the Netherlands Cup and reached the semifinals three times. Their best result in the country’s cup was led by Jan-Olde Rikerink in the 2001/2002 season, when the club lost in the semifinals to “ Utrecht ” in the penalty shootout, which prevented the final against “Ajax”. [6]

The 2013/2014 season was marked by the team’s debut in Erstedivisi (the country's second strongest league). [7] Previously, when the club played in Beloften Eredivisi (a separate league for reserve teams that are not part of the Dutch professional or amateur leagues), players were allowed to move freely between the reserve and the first team during the season. [8] Now this is no longer the case since Yong Ajax registers and sets up a separate team to participate in Erstedivisi . The only period when players can move between teams is during transfer windows, if a player has not spent less than 15 matches for the first team, he has the right to speak in matches of both the first and second teams during the season. [9] In addition, the team is not eligible for promotion to the Eredivisi or participation in the Netherlands Cup at the same time as the main team.

In the 2017/2018 season, the team won Erstedivisi for the first time. Some players from that lineup became part of the core team next season.
