Biography
Joey Gallo was born November 19, 1993 in Henderson, Nevada. As a child, he played on the same team with another future league star Bryce Harper . He graduated from Bishop Gorman High School, after which he planned to enter Louisiana State University . For the school baseball team, Gallo played at first and third bases, and also as a pitcher . As part of the team, he spent four seasons, in each of which she became the champion of Nevada. Gallo during this time knocked out 67 home runs , setting a school record. In 2012, in the Major League Baseball Draft, he was chosen by the Texas Rangers Club under a common number 39. ESPN website experts noted the player’s impact power, evaluating it at the maximum possible 80 points, as well as fastball speed of 98 miles per hour. In June, Joey signed with the club a contract with a bonus of 2.25 million dollars [1] [2] [3] [4] .
In 2013, Joey played with the Hickory Crowds in the South Atlantic League. In club games, he knocked out 38 home runs, despite missing a month due to a groin injury. He fought off two more home runs in the Arizona Autumn League, where he gained a game form after returning to the field. Gallo was the first teenager in fifty-one years who managed to beat off forty home runs in one season in the junior leagues [4] . In the 2014 season, he received an invitation to the All-Star Game of the Future. His two-point home run brought victory to the US team in this game, and Joey himself was recognized as its most valuable player [5] .
Gallo began the 2015 Championship in the AA League as part of the Frisco Rough Raiders . He played thirty-four games for the team with nine home runs and a 31.4% hit rate, after which he was called up to the Rangers. On June 2, Joey made his Major League Baseball debut against Chicago White Sox , scoring a home run in the third inning [6] . In total, he played for the team in thirty-five matches, beating off with not the best rate of 20.4%, but having made six home runs. Before the start of the next season, experts of the league's official website put Gallo in first place among the players of the Texas farm system. As a result of spring training, Joey was unable to break into the main team, and in early May he again injured his groin, because of which he missed part of the regular season. He went to the bat only twenty-five times [7] [8] .
In 2017, Gallo established himself as one of the most controversial batsmen in the league. His bounce rate was 53.7% (ninth in the league), and his overall hit rate was only 20.9% (seventy-sixth). The trend has developed in the next season - with 40 knocked out home runs and 92 RBI, Joey's hit rate was only 20.6%, he also received 207 strikeouts. Sports observer Jeremy Lerman called Gallo's performance in 2018 “one of the worst seasons with forty home runs in baseball history.” [9]
