Background
The first match between Corrales and Castillo took place on May 7, 2005 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas and went with varying success. Both boxers worked at short and medium range. During the fight, they managed to shake each other several times. The brightest was the tenth round, during which Korrales twice knocked down. During both knockdowns, Corrales spit out the mouthpiece to use the time given to flush it for recovery. Seconds after the second knockdown, Corrales attacked Castillo and shocked him with several punctuated punches, after which the referee of the fight - Tony Weeks intervened and stopped the fight. A technical knockout victory in the 10th round was awarded to Corrales [1] [2] . Summing up the results of 2005, the authoritative American boxing magazine “The Ring” awarded the first fight of Corrales – Castillo with the “Fight of the Year” award , and the 10th round received the “Round of the Year” award [3] .
Due to the extremely unexpected outcome of the first match, the rematch looked attractive from a financial point of view. Ticket prices for the fight at the box office reached 17.5 thousand US dollars , and the number of paid views on the Showtime TV channel could reach half a million [4] .
The world lightweight champion titles (up to 61, 2 kg) according to the WBC and WBO versions, which belonged to Diego Corrales, were supposed to be at stake, but Jose Luis Castillo exceeded the weight category limit by a little less than a kilogram. After that, Castillo got 75 minutes to drive off the excess weight, but on repeated weighing, he again exceeded the category limit by 1.7 kg. After that, the WBC and WBO reported that the titles of their organizations would not be played in this fight. In the end, Corrales agreed to hold the fight as part of the welterweight (up to 66.7 kg), but on the condition that on the day of the battle additional weighting will be carried out and for every 453 grams over the limit of the Castillo category, he will be fined $ 75,000 for each passing round of the fight. On the additional weighing procedure, Castillo managed to keep within the limit of the weight category, and Corrales weighed 67.6 kg [5] .
Especially for this fight, the rule was introduced that if during the fight one of the boxers intentionally spits a mouth guard out of his mouth, then two points will be removed from him. It was also written in the rule that the seconds should have spare caps so that if necessary it could be replaced as quickly as possible and thereby avoid unjustified delays, as was the case in the first battle [6] .
Match Progress
The duel in its style resembled the first fight between boxers and took place at close range with virtually no direct strikes. Sporting journalists noted that it would be more convenient for Corrales to box long-distance, using his advantages in height and arm span, but because this could deprive the fight of entertainment, Corrales did not use these advantages [8] .
The first round began with an exchange of punctuated punches. Castillo worked mainly with short hooks (side kicks) on the body and short uppercuts (kicks below) on the Corrales jaw. Corrales, besides the advantage in anthropometry, had an advantage in the speed of his hands and worked mainly with crosses (cross strikes), which he punched at the moment when Castillo retreated. In the middle of the round, Diego Corrales managed to get an accented uppercut on the opponent's jaw. But the first round was left to the Mexican [9] .
In the second round, Castillo continued to work with blows from below, which increasingly reached the target, but they did not cause significant damage to Corrales. Corrales worked as jabs (direct punches), which also did not reach the goal. At the end of the round, Castillo hit Corrales with an accented left hook, and forced him to stop attacking for a while. This round was equal, but the Mexican had a slight advantage [10] .
In the third round, the pace of confrontation continued. Corrales tried to push his opponent to the ropes, but Castillo changed the style of combat and began to work as the second number - retreating and counterattacking. Both boxers also continued to punch each other's hull. Then Corrales managed to break through the accented blow from below, thanks to which Castillo was in the middle distance and immediately struck the left hook and right jab, due to which Corrales was almost knocked down . Corrales recovered in a few seconds and attacked an opponent who began to clinch [11] .
In the fourth round, Corrales threw an unaccented left hook, and immediately after that he lowered his hand to the level of the belt to strike again, but at that moment Castillo worked ahead of time and struck the left half-hook-semi-uppercut, which fell into the chin of the American. After this blow, Corrales was on the floor of the ring and rose to the score of 10, but could not stand firmly on his feet, and in the 47th second of the 4th round the fight was stopped [11] .
The victory with the wording KO4 ( knockout in the 4th round) was awarded to Jose Luis Castillo [12] .
