History
Tro-Bros Leon, which means Breton of the Lands of Leon , was created in 1984 by Jean-Paul Mellouet, who tried to raise funds to support the Diwan de Lannilis school . He explained to the Le Télégramme reporter in March 2011 the idea of conducting a race with unpaved and gravel areas called the ribina (from Bret. Ribinoù , which means roads without asphalt: gravel, unpaved, agricultural, etc.) to a reporter in March 2011: [1]
since I found that all races are alike, I decided to get directions on the famous Ribin in Brittany.
Original text (Fr.)comme je trouvais que toutes les courses se ressemblaient, j'ai décidé de lui faire emprunter les chemins de traverse, les fameux "ribinoù" en breton
Until 1999, only amateurs took part in the race. Since 2004, it has been included in the calendar of the French Velocity Cup , and since 2005 it has been included in the UCI Europe Tour calendar with category 1.1 .
The result of the race is often influenced by the wind characteristic of the coastal region.
The winner of the race receives a live piglet as a prize. [2] [3]
Route
The race starts mainly in Lannily (sometimes in its vicinity), then the riders will have to overcome 150 km in the territory of the Brest district . After that, they again return to Lannily, around which the final circles of 50 km are held. The finish is located in Lannily. The route includes approximately 27 sections of the ribina , with a total length of 32 km. Due to its similarity with Paris - Roubaix, this particular feature of the route gave the Tro-Bro Leon race the nicknames Little Paris-Roubaix , Breton Paris-Roubaix , Hell of the West . [4] [5] The total distance is just over 200 km.
