Köpshin ( German: Kopschin ; v.- pud . Kopšin ) Is a village in Upper Lusatia , Germany . It is part of the Krostvits commune of the Bautzen district in Saxony . Submits to the administrative district of Dresden .

Geography

It is located on the left bank of the Satkula River (Kleinhenhener-Wasser) approximately one kilometer southeast of the administrative center of the commune of the village of Krostwitz. The ancient Slavic Kopshynyanskoe settlement is directly adjacent to the northern part of the village. In the north-west of the village passes the highway K 9230.

Neighboring settlements: in the northeast - the village of Pravochitsy , in the east - the village of Nuknitsa , in the south - the village of Leino of the commune of Panschwitz-Kukau , in the south-west - the village of Zeitsy of the commune of Panschwitz-Kukau and in the north-west - the administrative center of the commune of Krostwitz [ 2] .

History

First mentioned in 1343 under the name Kobschiwn [3] .

Since 1974 it has been part of the modern commune Krostvits [4] .

Currently, the village is part of the cultural-territorial autonomy " Luzhitsky Settlement Region ", on the territory of which there are legislative acts of the lands of Saxony and Brandenburg, which contribute to the preservation of Lusatian languages and the culture of Luzhich [5] [6] .

In August 1936, an allegorical anti-fascist play “ Palivak ” by Yury Veli was staged near the village of Kopshinyansky , which was attended by about five thousand spectators. For this production, the author was expelled by the Nazi authorities from Lusatia [8] .

Population

The official language in the village, in addition to German , is also Upper Luzhk language .

According to the statistical work “Dodawki k statisticy a etnografiji łužickich Serbow” by Arnoš Muki, in 1884 34 people lived in the village (34 of them were serbs) (9 %) [9] .
