It is located in the Leninsky district of the city, along Karl Marx Street . In the center of the square is a monument to V.I. The sculptors: A. I. Dalinenko, V. I. Tatarovich, G. D. Yastrebenetsky , architect G. A. Izrailevich.
Content
History
Until 1933, the territory of the Upper Bazaar was located on the site of the modern square, where peasants gathered on Fridays to trade meat and agricultural products, once a year fairs with booths and merry- go-rounds were organized on the square.
On the urban plan of 1908, the square was referred to as Fairground , but in the early 1930s the square needed a new name [3] .
As the main square of the capital, the square began to form in 1938 , then it received the name - Sovetskaya . It was at that time that the House of Soviets of the Chuvash Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (1940), designed by architect M. M. Bazilevich, appeared here. The volumetric and spatial composition of the building, executed in the style of Stalinist neoclassicism , successfully fit into the historically formed ensemble, orienting it to a well-landscaped square, a monument to Lenin and the main city highway - Karl Marx Street .
Nearby on the square are: the City Council, the Pedagogical Institute , the Chuvash Agricultural Academy and the Dandelion Fountain.
In 1950 , in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the birth of V.I. Lenin , the square was renamed in his honor, and was called Lenin Square until 1996 , until it received its modern name. The name of the square emphasizes its status as the main square of Chuvashia . From here, until the Government of the Republic moved from the old House of Soviets to the new building, the entire Republic was managed.

- On the square is the Church of the Nativity of Christ, built in 2000 on the site of the old fountain "Dandelion".
