Mar del Plata 1954 (chess tournament)

Zonal tournament of the South American zone in the framework of the candidate cycle 1954-1956. held in the Argentine city of Mar del Plata . Part of the tour took place in Buenos Aires .

22 chess players from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and Peru took part in the competition.

Representatives of Argentina O. Panno, M. Najdorf, K. Guimar and G. Pielnik won the right to participate in the interzonal tournament . The competition in the fight for the outgoing places they made up another 2 representatives of Argentina: E. Elikazes and E. Rossetto. The remaining participants are significantly behind the leading group. Chilean K. Hauregi could not finish the tournament.
