Seversky Zoo is the only zoo in the Tomsk Region (mobile zoos sometimes come to Tomsk , there are plans to open a zoo in the Mikhailovsky Grove or in the northern junction area), the municipal institution of ZATO Seversk . More than 50 thousand visitors visit the zoo annually; Tomsk children are taken to closed Seversk for excursions, to a large extent, in order to show the zoo.
The zoo is part of the Natural Park , occupying 4 hectares of the total 22.
In total, the zoo contains 220 species of animals (in 2003 there were 289 species [1] ), of which:
- mammals - 57
- birds - 90
- reptiles - 39
- amphibians - 2
- fish - 29
- invertebrates - 4
The formation of the animal collection began in 1967, after the creation of the "Corner of Wildlife" at the Park of Culture and Rest. In 1987, the zoo corner moved to a new building and became a zoo, and in 1989 it was accepted into the zoos of the USSR. In 1991, the zoo separated from the park of culture and recreation, became an independent institution and received the status of a zoo of the III category, and in 1993 - the II category. In 1995, the zoo was again combined with a recreation and recreation park into the common Seversky Nature Park .
In the winter of 2006, due to lack of funding, many animals were starving [2] [3] .
