Biography
Born in a family lawyer. He graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University of Chile .
In 1958–1964 served as deputy minister of justice.
From 1970 to 1973 and from 1991 to 1997. - Dean of the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University of Chile. In 1973, he headed the academic committee, which concluded that fraud was used in the parliamentary elections in 1973.
In 1973-1974 - Vice-Chancellor, 1974-1975 and 1978-1983. - Vice-rector of the university. From 1997 to 2008 he headed the Department of Procedural Law.
In 1976-1979 - Executive Director of the National Television of Chile, during this period there was a transition from black and white to color television.
In 1982-1983 - Chairman of the Bar Association of Chile.
In February-December 1983 - Minister of Justice, in 1983-1987. - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile. During this period, the conflict in the Beagle Channel was finally resolved, which allowed in 1984 to conclude in the Vatican the “Treaty of Peace and Friendship between Chile and Argentina.”
From 1999 to 2004, he was Vice President of the National Television Council.
In the 2000s. offered his candidacy for the position of a member of the Supreme Court, but she was rejected by President Ricardo Lagos .
In August 2012, he was awarded the title of honorary professor at the Catholic University of Chile.
