Kokneses Prospect ( Latvian. Kokneses prospekts ) is a street in the Northern district of Riga , in the historic district of Mežaparks . It runs northwards, from Kiseser Street to Mezha Avenue . The total length of the avenue is 1720 meters [1] .

Content
History
First mentioned in the list of city streets for the years 1903-1908, originally called Ketlerskaya Street ( Latvian. Ketlera iela , German Kettlerstraße ) [2] - in honor of Gotthard Ketler . It was the main road leading to the Tsar Forest ; initially ran only to Stockholm Street , in 1910 it was extended to the current Mezha Avenue [3] . In 1923, the avenue received its modern name (in honor of the city of Koknese ), which has not changed anymore [4] .

10 buildings on Kokneses Avenue are recognized as architectural monuments [5] .
- House 1 - a shop with living quarters (architect K. Agte, 1913) is an architectural monument of national importance.
- House 15 - a private house (architect A. Zarins, 1931) - a monument of architecture of national importance.
- House 18 is a residential building with a shop (architect H. Rosenbergs, 1934–1936) is a monument of architecture of national importance.
- House 18A is a laser medicine clinic [6] .
- House 19 is a private house (architect , 1929).
At the intersection with the streets Stockholmas and Peterupes a monument to children deported in 1941 was erected (sculptor Dzintra Jansone, 1993).
To date, the street plays the role of a public shopping center of the surrounding area [3] . At the beginning of the avenue, from the mid-2010s, a previously undeveloped area has been creating a micro-district of modern low-rise buildings with apartments Mežaparka Rezidences [7] .
Transportation
Prospect Kokneses is covered with asphalt throughout, the traffic is two-way. The route of tram No. 11 [8] passes throughout the avenue, and in summertime on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays the retrotram runs additionally along the same route [9] .
A cycle path Center — Mezhaparks, opened in 2007, passes along Kokneses Avenue [10] .
