Temple History
The Nikita church is mentioned in the scribe books of 1628. In 1739, the wooden church fell into disrepair.
The stone church was built at the expense of the Tver merchants S. Volynsky, G. and D. Boldyrev and contributions of parishioners. Consecrated in 1764, on the day of St. Nikita. In 1774 the southern aisle was added to the church and consecrated in the name of St. Dmitry Solunsky , who in 1820-25. has been rebuilt and expanded. In the years 1872-75. a northern aisle was attached to the church. In the outdoor decoration of the aisles, the late Baroque techniques are combined with forms of classicism. The temple is one of the dominants of the Zveretsky part of Tver. The last repair of the church took place in 1926. It was closed in the 1930s. The bell tower was later demolished [1] .
Architecture
A baroque stone church with a volumetric composition "octagon on four" was built on a wooden site. The brick walls are plastered, the base is white stone. The northern aisle mirrors the southern one. Only the lower tier survived from the bell tower. The temple is blocked by an eight-arch vault. The pentahedral altar differs from earlier Tver churches.
The restoration of the church of the Kalinin Regional Special Scientific and Restoration Production Workshop (KOSNRPM), now “Tverproektrestavatsiya” [2], was carried out.
Temple today
From December 5, 2018, the Tver Metropolitanate decided to form the Local Religious Organization of the Orthodox parish of the Church of the Great Martyr Nikita of Tver [3] .
Since the beginning of 2019, the restoration of the temple [4] by the Tver restoration project [5] began . Archpriest George Belodurov became the rector of the church [6] .
