Theodatus (also Diodotus or Theodotus ; assassinated in 43/42 BC) is a mentor and adviser to the Egyptian king Ptolemy XIII . He persuaded Ptolemy to kill Pompey , who sought refuge in Egypt, in order to earn Caesar's favor. When the result was the opposite, Theodatus fled from Caesar's wrath. He was subsequently killed by Brutus .
