Biography

Born in 1705 [K 1] in Dresden [2] [3] [K 2] .

In 1735, the president of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences I. A. Korf , on the recommendation of I. G. Lotter , was invited to St. Petersburg as vice-rector of a German gymnasium attached to the academy [1] [3] . From Leipzig, I.F. Litke, together with I.G. Lotter, H.E. Gellert and J. Stelin, arrived in Potsdam , where they were invited to the evening Friedrich Wilhelm I , then to Hamburg and, finally, from Lubeck by sea to Petersburg [5] .

Since 1736 - rector Petrishule in St. Petersburg [1] . In 1737 he moved as assistant pastor to the church of St. Anne [1] , at the same time taught German in Annenschul [6] . Due to contention between parishioners, he was removed from office by the Justices College of Livonian Affairs , left for Sweden in 1738 [1] , then came to Moscow through Poland and in 1744 was unanimously elected pastor in the new German community [1] [7] .

He founded the first private boarding house in Moscow [6] , in which, by the way, G.A. Potemkin studied German [1] . Since 1756, he was the first German teacher at the gymnasium of Moscow University [8] . In 1758 he returned to Petersburg, where for 3 years he taught at the Page Corps [6] .

He died in 1772 [3] [K 3] from the plague in Kaluga, where he went with the family [1] .
