History
The first building of the greenhouse was built by order of Emperor Franz II in 1823-1826 according to the project of the architect Ludwig von Remy, who used the innovative technology of iron structures at that time [1] .
In 1901, the greenhouse was rebuilt according to the project of the architect Friedrich Oman , who changed the historical facade to Art Nouveau and increased the area of the windows. Perestroika took 5 years [1] .
In 1988, for security reasons, the greenhouse was closed. In 1996-1998, the building was repaired, and the total cost of repairs amounted to about 13 million euros. In 1998, the Palm Greenhouse was reopened, in its left northwest wing there is a butterfly nursery, whose area is 280 m².

The Butterfly House is home to approximately 500 tropical butterflies of 40 different species, freely flying in the nursery [2] . The conditions of the tropical forest were recreated in the room: constant air temperature - about 26 C, humidity - about 80%. In addition to butterflies, a variety of tropical plants were planted in the nursery [3] .
