Background and Course of Battle

The Mamluk Sultanate was one of the external threats to the Ak-Koyunlu state whose ruler was Sultan Yagub . Mamluk ruler Kite Bey took advantage of the death of the leader Ak-Koyunlu Uzun Hassan and sent 100 thousandth army under the command of Amir Yash-bey , so that they seized Urfa [1] [2] . Amir Yash-Bey crossed the Euphrates River in 1580 and began the siege of Urfa [3] [4] . The ruler of the state Ak-Koyunlu Sultan Yagub was soon informed about this and he sent an army under the command of Bayandur-bek and Khalil-bek to protect Urfa [5] . Mamluk soldiers who learned about the approach of Ak-Koyunlu's troops to the city advised their commander Amir Yash-bey to retreat, but the latter did not listen to them [6] . Thus the Mamluk army appeared before the army of Ak-Koyunlu. The right side of the Mamluk army was commanded by Kansu Yahavi (head of Damascus), the left side was commanded by Ozdemir (Head of Aleppo) and the central part of the army was commanded by Amir Yash-bey. The battle ended with the victory of Ak-Koyunlu during which the Mamluk troops were completely defeated [7] [8] . Amir Yash Bey, Kansu Yahavi and Ozdemir were taken prisoner. After the meeting, Amir Yash Bey was executed [9] [10] . The head of the executed Amir Yash Bey was sent to Sultan Yagub. Mamluk Sultanate after this battle received a heavy blow and after losing the commanders of troops, the state greatly weakened [11] .
