Format
The series was created by Isis Productions and produced by Eagle Rock Entertainment [1] . During its existence, it was broadcast on various television channels, including BBC , ITV , Sky Arts , VH1 and VH1 Classic . Also published on DVD (selected popular issues). The structure of the show is similar to the telecast “Ultimate Albums” TV channel VH1 .
During the program, musicians and producers listen to multi-track recordings and certain tracks, giving an idea of how the sound of a particular composition is created. In addition, musicians play specific song fragments, which are then included in the context of the original recording. Almost all songs are considered focusing solely on the music itself, as it was composed / recorded. The personal aspects of the group or its members are rarely touched, but mainly only in the context of the album. Television episodes last 50 minutes, but DVD releases contain a lot of additional material. All releases of this series are made with the cooperation and full permission of the participating parties. The producers of the series are Nick de Grunwald and Martin R. Smith. Various directors were involved in the filming of the series, but most of the programs were shot by Bob Smeaton, Matthew Longfellow and Jeremy Marre.
History
The series is not related to the radio show invented by radio producer John Pidgeon as a show for Roger Scott when he moved from Capital Radio on BBC Radio 1 in 1988. The first watch series, released in 1989 by Pigeon and Scott, was dedicated to Brothers in Arms Dire Straits , Beggars Banquet ( The Rolling Stones ), Invisible Touch ( Genesis ), The Dark Side of the Moon ( Pink Floyd ), Who's Next ( The Who ), Rumours ( Fleetwood Mac ), Pet Sounds ( The Beach Boys ), Synchronicity ( The Police ), Hotel California ( Eagles ) and The Joshua Tree ( U2 ). Five months later, Scott died of cancer, and the second episode aired posthumously. Further programs were led by host Richard Skinner .
The first episode of Classic Albums was actually the documentary The Making of Sgt. Pepper . " This documentary was dedicated to the landmark album The Beatles and was released in the same format as the subsequent series. Isis Productions and Nick de Grunwald jointly produced this documentary, which ultimately became the template for all of the next Classic Albums shows. In 1992, the series was broadcast both on the Disney Channel in the United States and on ITV The South Bank Show in the UK [2] .
